MAKING THE VIDEO TAPE - WHAT TO SHOW

A SHORT TALK _______________________________________________
-Introduce yourself and state your purpose in playing your instrument.

SHOW HOW YOU BUZZ.
SHOW THE TEETH
-Pull back upper lip and hold 10 seconds
-Pull down lower lip and hold 10 seconds
-Open both lips and show the bite position
(1) Front view
(2) One (1) side view
(3) Important: Show lower teeth from the top edges looking down by tilting
head forward while holding out lower lip.
SHOW THE TONGUE
-Touch tongue tip to the farthest point of chin. Say how you use (playing) the
tongue on slurs and sustaining. Say how you use the tongue for (1) initial attacks
(2) for repeated attacks on the same note, and (3) for ascending and descending
attacks. What the instructor needs here is information on what part of the tongue
strikes (tip, middle, or what) and where it strikes (behind upper teeth, lower teeth,
or where?).
With the Instrument ___________________________________________________
-Full Body Shot - Front View and - Side Views
Play a middle concert Bb and sustain to completion of the breath. Take a long
slow breath and repeat. Do this 5imes. Any attack is OK.
-Close Up of Embouchure Formation - Front View and repeat Side View (any side)
(1) Slur middle Bb concert up to concert F (Perfect 5th). Whole notes 4/4. Repeat 5 times
(both views).
(2) Ascend diatonically middle Bb concert quarter note slurs to high Bb concert.
(3) Descend diatonically middle Bb concert to low Bb concert in like manner.
(4) Repeat 2 and 3 tongued with accents.
Play anything to your liking here that you do well (etudes, solos, etc.). Then show inside of both upper and lower lips.
Ask any questions you may have (have a prepared list if you need to).
Mention any players you admire or wish to emulate (optional).
What form of lubrication do you use (wet, dry, dry top, etc.)?
What are your current playing chores (Professional/Weekend/Full time, etc.)?
What are your goals (long range and short term)?
